Vallejo Xpress Color Gloomy Violet is a transparent matt acrylic color designed for fast miniature painting. Its high-flow formula moves naturally across the surface, settling more strongly into recesses to create instant shading and contrast with a single expressive layer.
 
What it does
Creates a dark gloomy violet tone with instant contrast and depth.
Works especially well over white or grey primer, where the color naturally creates lighter raised areas, saturated mid-tones, and deeper shadows.
Excellent for sinister robes, cloaks, magical armor, undead skin, monsters, spell effects, crystals, and dark fantasy schemes.
Can be used for glazes, filters, soft shading, contouring, and blending transitions.
Can be mixed with other Xpress Colors or diluted with Xpress Medium to create softer violet tones and custom shades.
 
How to use
Prime or basecoat the miniature in white or light grey.
Shake the bottle well before use.
Apply with a brush and let the paint flow naturally into recesses.
Avoid overworking the surface while drying to keep the contrast smooth.
For softer or more controlled results, dilute with Vallejo Xpress Medium.
It can also be used with an airbrush for tinting, filters, and smooth color effects.

Use Gloomy Violet over a zenithal prime for instant depth on dark robes, undead skin, and magical creatures. For a haunted fantasy look, highlight the sharpest folds with pale lavender or grey-violet; for deeper shadow magic, add a second thin layer into the recesses and lower parts of the model.
